FAIRMD2026 Workshop at LINXS in Lund

Researchers from across the molecular modelling community met in Lund for four days of hands-on work on the FAIRMD Lipids and IDPs Databanks, verifying MD simulations against SAXS and NMR data for better machine learning from FAIR data. The workshop was organised by VTT, the University of Bergen and ELIXIR Norway.

FAIRMD2026 Workshop at LINXS in Lund

From 7 to 10 September 2026, the FAIRMD2026 Workshop brought researchers from across the molecular modelling community to the LINXS Institute of advanced Neutron and X-ray Science in Lund, close to the European Spallation Source (ESS). The workshop was organised by VTT, the University of Bergen (UiB) and ELIXIR Norway, and was enabled by the FAIRMD – Disorder to Order project, funded through the EU OSCARS project. LINXS partnered with FAIRMD to host the event.

Over four days of hands-on collaboration, participants from several countries worked on advancing the FAIRMD Lipids and IDPs Databanks. The focus was on verifying molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of lipids and intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) against small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments, tackling concrete challenges together, and exploring how high-quality, FAIR simulation data can support new applications, including machine learning models for SAXS.

A big thank you to all participants for bringing their expertise, ideas and collaborative spirit to the workshop, and to LINXS for providing an inspiring environment. We look forward to seeing how the work continues to develop.

The FAIRMD Lipids Databank is developed openly by the NMRlipids community; the code is available on GitHub.
