On 24 September, the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research announced that ELIXIR Norway will be awarded funding through the Research Council of Norway’s INFRASTRUKTUR programme. The Research Council received 97 applications in this call and awarded funding to 18 national research infrastructures, sharing a total of NOK 1.24 billion.
This support will allow us to continue strengthening life science data infrastructure and services for researchers across Norway in the years ahead.
Our work is organised into seven work packages. Alongside coordination and outreach, we will support both researchers and service providers and maintain the core technical infrastructure our services depend on. Internationally, we will help advance FAIR and AI-ready data standards for the life sciences. For sensitive human genomic data, we will continue building national infrastructure through FEGA Norway and the national node of the Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI). We will also pioneer AI-driven tools for molecular biodiversity and metagenomic data.
We congratulate all the other research infrastructures funded in this call, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with Biobank Norway and GBIF-Norway. We are equally grateful for the ongoing partnership with the infrastructures that were not funded this round. Research infrastructure is a shared ecosystem, and we remain committed to working together, sharing knowledge, and supporting each other going forward.
