Job opportunity: Manager (senior engineer) at the Bioinformatics Core Facility (BioCore) - NTNU


The position is part of the Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine's core facility for bioinformatics (BioCore; https://www.ntnu.edu/mh/biocore/). BioCore is one of fifteen core facilities at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, NTNU, which offers technology and professional expertise for other researchers at, for example, NTNU, St. Olav's hospital, and SINTEF. At BioCore, we primarily offer tailored bioinformatics solutions for the handling and analysis of high-throughput data. This means that we mainly work interdisciplinary with issues related to, for example, metagenomics, expression profiling, gene regulation, microRNA, and genetic variation.

We are now looking for a manager who will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the core facility. This involves providing service to and conducting research collaboration with external customers and partners in academia and industry, both at NTNU and in Norway in general, as well as communicating BioCore's expertise and solutions to them.

 

Work tasks

  • Respond to inquiries to the core facility
  • Guide and train the core facility's users
  • Drive project-based research and development in collaboration with users of the core facility
  • Develop software solutions to support core facility operations
  • Plan and report on the core facility's operations

Qualification requirements

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in bioinformatics or equivalent
  • Practical experience with training and teaching within bioinformatics
  • Minimum 2 years of practical experience with analysis of sequencing data, including methods for multivariate analysis
  • Good oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian and English

Additional qualifications

  • Documented experience with independent and peer-reviewed research in bioinformatics
  • Documented experience with interdisciplinary research collaboration
  • Practical experience with programming in at least two of the following languages: Python, Java, Perl, or R
  • Experience in project management

Salary and conditions

In the position as senior engineer code 1181, you will normally be paid from NOK 544,400 - 677,000 gross per years depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.

The appointment is carried out in accordance with the principles of the State Employees Act, and legislation that regulates the export of knowledge, technology and services. After employment, you must expect that there may be changes in the work area.

It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and available to the institution on a daily basis.
