ELIXIR Europe
ELIXIR is the European research infrastructure for life science data and is highlighted as a European landmark by the European strategy forum for research infrastructures, ESFRI. ELIXIR is an intergovernmental organisation and brings together life science resources from across Europe. These resources include databases, software tools, training materials, cloud storage and supercomputers, each contributed by one of the 22 ELIXIR nodes. The goal of ELIXIR is to coordinate these resources so that they form a single infrastructure. This infrastructure makes it easier for scientists to find and share data, exchange expertise, and agree on best practices.
ELIXIR Norway contributes to the ELIXIR scientific programme
ELIXIR Norway staff are involved to work on all five ELIXIR Platforms. In the ELIXIR scientific programme 2019-2021 we offer particular expertise towards Interoperability and Tools:
- Interoperability Task 2: Interoperability with a Purpose (co-lead)
- Interoperability Task 3: Capacity Building (co-lead)
- Tools Task 3: Registry of bioinformatics tool information and identifiers
ELIXIR Communities bring together experts across Europe to develop standards, services and training within specific life science domains. The Communities also provide feedback on the Platform services, to help ensure that these services are practical and useful. In ELIXIR Norway, we have particular interest and expertise in
- Marine metabolomics community (co-lead)
- Galaxy community
- Human data communities - Federated human data, rare diseases and human CNVs
- Proteomics
- 3D-Bioinfo
ELIXIR Norway further contributes to the ELIXIR Focus Groups on Biodiversity, Cancer data and Impact.
